Fujiwara no Kuromaro (藤原黒麻呂)
FUJIWARA no Kuromaro (year of birth unknown - 810) was a retainer of the Imperial Court who lived from the end of the Nara period to the beginning of the Heian period. He was from the Southern House of the Fujiwara clan, and was the second son of FUJIWARA no Kosemaro. His mother was the daughter of Prince Yamashiro. He had some brothers including FUJIWARA no Matanari, FUJIWARA no Isendo, and FUJIWARA no Sadatsugu. He was at the rank of Jushiinoge (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade), and he experienced various positions such as the Governor of Suo Province, the Governor of Inaba Province, and the Assistant Governor of Kazusa Province.
He was born in Omi Province. He was appointed to be the Assistant Governor of Kazusa Province in 774 and moved to this province. According to the 'Choya Gunsai' (The Collected Official and Unofficial Writings), he turned wastelands in the area into farmland, and he established a manor called 'Mobara no Sho' (the Mobara manor). It is said that this Mobara no Sho is the origin of present-day Mobara city, Chiba Prefecture.
